Planimetric Map

This map image best conveys a planimetric map because it is showing horizontal features of the earth’s surface. A planimetric map is a horizontal surface map that is two dimensional which mean that there is no raised relief.  When one looks at it he/she will see that it shows geographic objects that will give you accurate horizontal distances between two or more locations. These maps will display roads, railroads, rivers, lakes, landmarks, airports, military bases, as-well-as other important geographic locations. In the planimetric map used above you are able to easily read and identify the roads, park, and public elementary school. This is a map of Vancouver in 1891.
