Topographic Map

Topographic maps are used to show relief of natural or manmade features of a terrain. These types of maps are two dimensional and use contour lines, which are lines that are drawn and can be either curved or straight, these lines show steepness or elevation of a feature. Things that this type of map would be used to convey would be hills, mountains, and volcanoes. In the image about two hills are shown and the topographic map uses both straight and curved lines to show the elevation difference starting from sea level between the two hills. It also uses curves lines to show points that are on the same level. A topographic map basically cuts into the picture to show the elevation changes from different points in the feature.
